“Everything Turns to Shit, Rewrite with Conscious Action and Emotion” by Thomas Typewriter (watercolor & gesso on stretched canvas, two 9″ x 12″ panels)
A little while ago, I felt I had hit a wall in regards to my paintings. I was capable of the physical process of making the paintings, but I was decreasingly uncapable of finding the spirit in the painting. I was not learning anything about myself. One of the reasons I paint, and this equally applies to the script writing, is that when it is good, a slice of myself goes into the work. Conscious and unconscious. I come back to the painting after some time and I go, “Oh wow, so that’s what I was dealing with at the time.” In my last few paintings, I just see blobs of color.
And it is okay that I am in this moment dissatisfied. It happens. I’ll keep painting, exploring, trying new things and I’ll find my way onto something.
